We do not call this sustainability. Because that word has been spent.

The word "sustainability" has done useful work over the last thirty years. It is no longer doing that work. It has been so widely deployed, by so many organisations of so many shapes, that it has come to mean very little in particular and a great deal in general.

Straun is using a different word. We call our public position Headwaters, after the source of a stream. Every current has a beginning, and ours is on the record.

Three pillars. Measured publicly. Reported annually. Compared, year on year, against what we said the year before.

The standard we hold ourselves to is not what other holding companies do. It is not what is currently fashionable in environmental, social, and governance disclosure. It is what is honestly within our power to deliver, and what we are prepared to be measured against in twelve months' time.

If a commitment is not on this page, we have not yet made it. If a commitment is on this page and we have not delivered, the annual report will say so plainly.

The three pillars.

01

Climate & Energy

Forest Grove's renewable assets generate substantially more energy than Straun Group consumes across all operations. We measure this. We report it. We are committed to keeping it true.

Beyond first-order emissions, we publish an annual breakdown of the embodied carbon in our supply chain, and the trajectory we expect this to follow as the portfolio grows.

Annual commitments

  • Net-positive group operations from year one
  • Scope 1, 2, 3 disclosure
  • Embodied carbon reporting
  • Public emissions trajectory
02

People & Place

Straun Group is headquartered in Glasgow because Glasgow is where we live and where the work is best. This is not branding. It is hiring policy, supplier policy, and operational policy.

Living wage as a floor, not a ceiling. Apprenticeships across every operating company. Permanent hiring rather than contract-first. Annual reporting on workforce composition, retention, and pay distribution.

Annual commitments

  • Living wage minimum, all roles
  • Apprenticeships in every Co.
  • Pay-distribution disclosure
  • Scottish supplier preference
03

Governance & Trust

Public reporting on supply chain, modern slavery, board composition, and contractor terms. The annual report is published in full, without paywalled summaries or "highlights" versions.

Board composition includes external members with no Straun shareholding. Decisions about acquisitions, capital allocation, and material policy changes are recorded in published minutes within sixty days.

Annual commitments

  • Full report, no paywall
  • External board members
  • 60-day minutes publication
  • Modern Slavery statement

The first annual report publishes January 2027.

Straun Group's first full Headwaters report covers our founding year. It will be published in January 2027, in full, freely accessible, against the commitments laid out on this page.
